A soulful and transformational class where we explore the use of awareness, breath and self compassion into the practise of yoga. Yin/Yang Yoga incorporating the Five Elements theory of health by using selected meridian stretches to balance the flow of Qi/Prana in the Yin & Yang Meridians. This Yoga class involves some rhythmic flow segments (Yang) and some long held meditative segments (Yin) resulting in an overall state of deep calm and balance for the Yogi.

Yang Yoga is a general term describing a range of yoga styles characterised by rhythmic movement and a sequence flow. The muscles and blood vessels are stretched and contracted alternately providing a flush of blood and fluids through the muscular and cardiovascular systems of the body. Moving the body to warm and detoxify the tissues and organs is of utmost importance to our overall health.

Yin Yoga is a system of long held passive floor yoga poses where we use the benefits of gravity to sink into and rest at our ‘acceptable edge’. Yin Yoga works on the deeper body structures such as joints and bones. By taking longer time in each pose, we allow the connective tissue or fascia of the body to soften and become more hydrated and in turn hydrating of our joints. This helps to nourish and repair these structures in a supportive and safe way. Yin yoga assists in overall flexibility across time and with practise. In Yin Yoga we use our breath and techniques of mindfulness to gain greater benefit during challenging poses. The focus of this style is stillness, interospection and ‘being’ rather than ‘doing’. In this supported context, Yogis practise observing sensations without reacting or judging our physical, emotional or mental responses. In turn this assists us with greater powers of self observation, self knowledge and self acceptance.

Guided by experienced Shiatsu Therapist and Yoga instructor, Alida, this class invites integration of Hatha Yoga (including Sun Salutations), Meridian Stretches and mindfulness practises in this embodied yoga experience.
